City Council to Consider School Bus Safety Cameras

NEW YORK - A Manhattan councilman is pushing a bill that would add cameras to all school buses in the city.

City Council member Ben Kallos will introduce new legislation Tuesday that would add stop-arm cameras to buses.

This comes as part of an effort to catch other drivers that don't stop when they should.

Every year, an estimated 50,000 vehicles across the state ignore the safety regulation.

Sixteen states already have the bus technology.

Kallos' bill would need state authorization to take effect.

Governor Andrew Cuomo's office tells the New York Post that the bus camera idea is worth considering.
