Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and City Council Member Ben Kallos are bringing discussion of the law to New Yorkers with an Open Government Workshop at Personal Democracy Forum, an annual, two-day conference organized by Personal Democracy Media with the 2014 theme “SAVE THE INTERNET |The Internet Saves.”
The Open Government Workshop will address cutting edge government transparency and technology initiatives happening in New York City. Topics will include Brewer and Kallos’ OpenFOIL Legislation and other recently-introduced transparency legislation to make government information more easily accessible to the public, how to apply open government principles to the legislative process with the example of the strong coalition and collaborative process behind New York City’s Open Data law, and efforts to expand broadband access to bridge the digital divide. Members of the public will have the chance to speak and ask questions on the legislation during the session with two New York City open government leaders.
