Web analytics could refer not just to how many page views and clicks websites receive, but also new and repeat visitors, time spent, keywords searched for, visualizations, users' language preferences, device and browser used, and potentially the user's carrier and neighborhood of access.

The city already has taken usage into account as part of its broader website redesigns, both under former chief digital officer Rachel Haotduring the Bloomberg administration and more recently under chief digital officer Jessica Singleton as part of the "alpha" platform testing out new web approaches.
