New York Post De Blasio's legal department pressured to file cases online by Julia Marsh
A councilman is demanding Mayor de Blasio’s legal department investigate how it can save taxpayers millions of dollars filing cases online.
Manhattan Democrat Ben Kallos wrote to the city’s Law Department on Monday after reading an exclusive story in The Post about how the agency paid InSync Litigation Services $1.2 million over the past five years to deliver legal papers by hand when it could have filed them online for free.
“It’s something that’s ripe for reform,” Kallos said.
Kallos, chair of the Governmental Operations Committee, is talking to the department about modernizing its operations and may also hold a hearing on the issue.
spokesperson said, “The Law Department shares the goal of implementing e-filing as much as feasible and will be discussing how to maximize use with members of the court system” and with Kallos.
