Albany Times Union's Capitol Confidential NYC Council hopeful pushes Cuomo on Roosevelt Island by Jimmy Vielkind
A New York City Council candidate has written to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, urging him to appoint a resident of Roosevelt Island to a vacancy that exists on the state-controlled island’s operating authority.
Ben Kallos, a former aide to Democratic donor Bill Samuels through his New Roosevelt Initiative and EffectiveNY campaign, sent the letter Monday, urging Cuomo to pick one of two candidates selected in balloting held by the residents association for the Island, which sits between Manhattan and Queens.
“We request that the Governor restore democracy to Roosevelt Island by filling this vacancy with a Roosevelt Island resident elected by fellow residents,” Kallos wrote.
In 2011, Cuomo angered some Island residents by appointing Sal Ferrara, a non-resident, to the Roosevelt Island Operating Commitee. A Cuomo spokesman had no comment on the letter, which is below.
